Telecommunications

Carmanah has extensive experience in designing and supplying solar electric systems for telecommunication applications, including mountain-top repeater sites, microwave relays, and portable radio power systems.

With networks of mountain-top repeaters accessible only by helicopter, site reliability is of the utmost importance. Solar power systems require little to no ongoing maintenance, thus making them an attractive alternative to generator or potash battery systems. Carmanah designs systems for the highest reliability factors, and can provide array and battery systems which can endure months of hostile weather and snow cover while still providing power to critical systems.

With thousands of installations still reliably operating in the field after a decade or more, Carmanah's industrial design technicians will assess system demands based on location restrictions to create a complete and reliable solution.

Oil and Gas

Oil and Gas

The oil and gas industry is frequently faced with the challenge of providing power to remote areas, making Carmanah's extensive experience in designing and supplying solar electric systems for oil & gas applications the perfect solution. Applications include mineral exploration camps, cathodic protection for pipelines and SCADA monitoring stations.

Systems intended for oil and gas applications are required to be reliable, durable, low maintenance, and often certified for hazardous locations. When considering the costs of running diesel generators in remote locations or other charging sources, solar power is a cost-effective solution. Carmanah's Oil & Gas specialists can assist with the design of power systems to meet almost any demand. Contact Carmanah's Oil and Gas customer service representatives for more information and to arrange a meeting.

Security

Security

Due to the proven reliability of Carmanah's solar systems, Carmanah's security products have become the logical choice to provide increased measures of safety such as area lighting for parking lots or college pathways to back-up power for surveillance cameras and alarms.

Large scale solar power systems for critical power loads such as computers or refrigeration are also an increasingly critical area of interest within the security industry. With power disruptions due to natural disasters and energy system failures appearing to happen with greater frequency, protection against power supply failures can be achieved using Carmanah's solar power systems.

Based on over 20 years of solar power system expertise, Carmanah provides solar power systems that can reliably power critical loads independent from the traditional power grid. Contact Carmanah's Industrial division for more information.

Commercial Grid-Tie

Commercial Grid-Tie

Grid tie solar electric systems with some form of net metering program are the fastest growing segment of the solar market worldwide. With net metering programs now approved in most of the U.S. states and huge installation programs in Germany and Japan, thousands of home owners are now experiencing the benefits of solar electricity.

Solar power systems installed on commercial buildings that are connected to the electrical grid, supply a portion of the power to run the site. Using solar energy reduces dependency on the electrical utility and lowers monthly power bills. During the day, electricity generated by the solar power system is fed into the building, offsetting the amount of power being drawn from the grid. Any excess power is fed back to the power utility to be used by someone else, resulting in a power credit. This concept is known as net metering.

There are two types of grid connected systems - those with batteries and those without. Systems with batteries will continue to supply power during a grid failure, allowing the operation of critical loads at all times. Installations without batteries feed the solar power directly to a grid tie, or synchronous inverter, reducing the total cost of the system.

Carmanah has designed and provided many cutting-edge commercial grid-tie systems throughout North America. Contact Carmanah today to find out whether your building is right for a commercial grid-tie system.
